Using DNA analysis, researchers are now convinced that there are four distinct giraffe species, not one as previously thought. Conservation biologist Julian Fennessy, geneticist Axel Janke and their colleagues collected DNA samples from giraffes across the Africa. They published their results in the journal Current Biology.
