This small, family operated lodge is on an amazing
stretch of beach about 3km north of Kilwa Masoko,
Tanzania. The rooms have been tastfully designed to blend
in seamlessly with the surrounding coconut plantations. Being so
far from the town centre the lodge really gives you a sense
of isolation and relaxation.
The rooms,
which are metres from the sea are simple stone and thatch bandas
with twin beds. The showers are currently shared
however plans to make some rooms ensuite are underway. Power is
provided by a mixture of solar and generator.
The lodge is
always cool thanks to a constant onshore breeze, and hence the name
of the lodge which means "Windy Beach" in Swahili
The lodge currently
offers snorkelling trips to the nearby coral reef,
visits to the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Kilwa Kisiwani and trips
further afield to hippo pools and Matandu River Flood Plain.
The owners
as well as ruuning the hotel in an eco-friendly way have also set
up a community project; this helps with ecological
education in schools in the district and a reforestation
project. Guests are encouraged to visit the project during their
stay
We
do like this lodge but due to the basic facilities here we tend
to send those clients who want a more wild experience and are usually
slightly younger and less comfort-conscious.
