In
the remote south-western section of Ruaha National Park,
on the banks of the seasonal Jongomero Sand River, you will find one
of the best safari camps in East Africa.
The camp
has eight large en-suite tents, each filled with
an opulent 8-foot wide emperor bed and tasteful but minimalist safari
styling. The tents are all raised and shade is provided by enormous
thatched roofs.
The sand
river always has some water pools that attracts game all
year around which you can watch from your veranda or any
of the communal areas. These areas are protected in a grove of Acacia
and Ebony trees, and comprises a bar, eating area and a natural
rock swimming pool. The eating area is often left empty
here as guests are often surprised with special meals including
al fresco dinner sat on the sand river bed under the stars or classic
safari picnics. The service and food at this lodge are
exceptional.
This
camp has recently been refurbished and is starting to set the standards
for the rest of Ruaha’s luxury camps. Being 60 Kilometres
from the main gate, Jongomero is truly 'in the bush.' This remoteness
is of the nicest aspects of the camp and there is an airstrip allowing
clients direct access.
