Beho Beho is perched on the slopes of Namikwera Hill to the
northwest of Lake Tagalala in the Selous Game Reserve.
This is the only Selous lodge not on the river; however all the
spacious verandas have panoramic views over the meandering
Rufiji and it’s game-filled flood plain. Beho Beho
was the first lodge in the Selous Game Reserve built in the early
seventies and is at the heart of the greatest wildlife concentrations,
especially during the dry season when water is scarce and wildlife
congregates at the lakeshore. The lodge has always had a great reputation
for offering a true African safari experience;
with a variety of activities including walking, boating and vehicles
safaris.
The guided walking safaris are a
speciality of the camp and can be designed to suit your
specific interests be it birding along the Beho Beho River or game
spotting in the First World War trenches.
The lodge itself has 10 stone and
thatch, air-conditioned bungalows all of which are secluded
offering real privacy. The rooms are stylish and comfortable
and still keep that old-world romantic feel. The communal
areas were all upgraded in 2004 and are now of the highest standard;
keeping the eccentric old safari feel including
a full sized billiard table combined with a new comtempary look
in the modern lounge and pool.
Meals at the camp can be taken almost anywhere;
in the dining area, lounge, your own veranda or at many of the lookout
points around the camp. If you manage to make it out on safari “bush
breakfasts” and picnics are also arranged.
We really like this camp it has it
all; terrific location, stylish rooms, excellent wildlife viewing,
friendly staff and mouth-watering meals. There is competition for
the high end market in Selous but we feel Beho Beho still dominates
the others.
One thing to note is the fact Beho Beho doesn't
take any children under 12.
