14 days Luxury Selous Safari and beach extension Zanzibar

This honeymoon-like itinerary is one of our most exclusive programs. Visiting the Selous is a far cry from almost any other park in Africa. For here you are always conscious of the huge tract of wild Africa that surrounds you. It’s the walking and fly-camping that undoubtedly cast the strongest spell, the Selous is the only park in Tanzania where you can go on a boat Safari. Days are spent on foot exploring old elephant paths and evenings in the open, at a camp-fire with an uninterrupted cacophony of African calls all around you.

Day 1
Depart Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar by air, arrival at Selous Game Reserve. Afternoon boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River, where you can watch plenty of hippos, crocodiles, and bird life is prolific. Dinner and overnight at Rufiji River Camp (or similar) which is a tented camp situated in the north-eastern part of the Selous Game Reserve on a high bank overlooking the Rufiji River and the plain beyond. The camp accommodates guests in 20 comfortable tents. Each tent has twin beds with mosquito nets, en-suite bathroom and a veranda facing the river. The central restaurant provides excellent cuisine. The camp makes maximum use of local materials, retaining an intimate relationship with the surrounding eco-system.

Day 2
Full-day game drive of Selous Game Reserve, Africa's largest wildlife sanctuary, with an area of 54.600kms. Selous is bigger than Denmark and 4 times the size of Serengeti. It has the world's largest number of big game - elephant, buffalo, rhino. It also contains wildebeest, eland, giraffe, waterbuck, zebra, impala, hippo, leopard and lion. There are about 350 species of bird life. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

After breakfast transfer to the Emerson & Green Hotel in Stonetown On the way we will do the famous Spice Tour. We have developed a special Spice Tour with in depth information not only about spices, but also organically grown herbs and a detailed description about their traditional uses in medicine cosmetics and cooking. After the tour we invite for an opulent lunch at our guides' home, where you can taste the spices and fruits. The Spice Tour is also the cheapest place to purchase spices and spice oils. Dinner at the rooftop restaurant of the Emerson & Green Hotel.
