This island boat tour starts
in the morning from any hotel in Stonetown, with a 30 minutes drive
to the village of Fumba. From here the local boats
(traditional Dhows, handcrafted from African Mahogany) will bring
you to the islands of Kwale and other beautiful islands and sandbanks
in the Menai Bay conservation area, across stunning
turquoise waters!
There is a high chance that you see humpback
or bottlenose dolphins!
The boat stops by at a sandbank,
where sunshades are set up, and you can explore the surrounding
reef by snorkeling. For the less confident swimmers there are inflatable
safety jackets, and the compagny of guides. Or you just relax on
the sandbank, and enjoy the solitude of being on a sandbank in the
middle of the ocean...
After snorkeling fresh drinking coconuts
are offered, then you move to the desert island restaurant
on Kwale Island, beneath the shade of large tamarind trees.
Taste the flavours of Zanzibar, with fresh slipper lobster,
all kind of grilled fish, calamari, chicken tamarind and coconut
sauces are served, and 10 - 15 different tropical fruits. Cold drinks
are available, including mineral water, sodas and beer. After lunch
coffee and Amarula are served.
From here you can sail with a 'ngalawa',
a local outrigger boat, to explore the local fishing traditions
that are in use since centuries...
And you can visit the beautiful mangrove
lagoon, and swim in a mangrove forest, if tide permits.
Later on you return to Fumba by sail, as the sun
sets down, arriving around 6 pm. Later on transfer back to your
hotel in Stonetown.
The well maintained boats are fitted with
high standard safety equipment, and radios.
