There are plenty of destinations to visit and things to see and do whilst in Tanzania. Whether you want to seek out some wildlife drama, feel soft white sand between your toes, or watch the sunrise from the summit of a mountain - of course you can find it here.
But at Tanzania Adventure, we don't just offer the more popular destinations and tours to our guests. We also go the extra mile to find those "hidden treasures", and can create customised itineraries for unique and special experiences. Whether you want to tweak or amend one of our existing packages, or create something totally from scratch, we can help you.
This newsletter contains some examples of special activities, excursions and tailor-made itineraries which we have created for some of our past clients.

There are many beautiful mountains in Tanzania that can be explored by hiking, but many of them are often overlooked in favour of the world-famous and impressive Mount Kilimanjaro. Here are a couple of mountains which you may decide to trek after finding out more about them...
Usambara Mountains - Trekking around the staggeringly varied surrounds of Usambara has to be one of the most magical experiences Tanzania can offer. Exploration here could take you from tea plantations to crashing waterfalls, rainforest to semi-arid plains, spotting monkeys, birds and reptiles, and taking in stunning scenery and views along the way. Treks last from half a day - up to 4 days.
Mount Meru - This mountain reaches a staggering 4,566 metres, making it 1,329m shorter than Kilimanjaro. Climbing Meru, however, is steep, a real challenge and very rewarding. Accommodation is in mountain huts throughout, and Meru can be summited in just 4 days including acclimatisation (minimum climb for Kilimanjaro is usually 6 days).

There is no better way to see and experience Tanzania than to get to know its culture firsthand. Tanzania is developing fast, and often rural surroundings will clash in a surreal and incongruous way with stark reminders of the modern world. However, for the adventurous among you, there are still many pockets of untouched, untainted, authentic heritage to be found.
One place where this can be found is amongst the Monduli Mountains. Just a couple of hours drive from Arusha, you will find a supremely serene world of grazing antelope, rolling hills, fresh air and staggering views - all populated by semi-nomadic Masai, herding their cattle for the best grazing just as they always have.
At Monduli you can do some gentle hiking, visit a traditional story-teller, stop by the local hospital, and at the end of the day camp close to a Masai village, where the tribe's members can stop by to prepare you a traditional "nyama choma" of barbecued goat meat for your evening meal.

Arts, Crafts and Local Produce
|
Arts, crafts and local produce form an important part of peoples' livelihoods in Tanzania, and these days they are often tied in with NGOs and social initiatives. Visiting one of these projects is a great way to learn about local trade, support something truly worthwhile and maybe try (or taste!) something totally new...!
- Take a trip to a local coffee plantation to see where a great source of the world's coffee supply comes from. Witness each stage of production, from plant, to bean, to drink!
- Visit a local orphanage and/or church service at the village of Nkoaranga, before eating a traditional African, locally-produced lunch on the lawn.
- Go to a glass-blowing and beading workshop, where you can see old glass recycled into beautiful tiles, jewellery, decorations and ornaments.
- Try some hand-made cheeses or stock up on delicious, organic fruit jams prepared by local "mamas" living on the slopes of Mount Meru. These ladies are engaging, welcoming and know their craft.
- Create something beautiful at a beading workshop with the very admirable Bahati Cooperative, or something delicious during a cookery class with some Masai women!
It is our opinion that experiences such as those described above will enhance any safari program, and can usually be worked into any itinerary very easily. We are proud of Tanzania, and the good work that goes on throughout the country, and we are always keen to share our specialist knowledge with our guests.

The Perfect Ending...

Something Different...?
|
 |
|
 |
Wherever you may choose to visit whilst on safari in Tanzania, you can always consider ending your trip somewhere exciting and unusual!
You might consider Lukuba Island Lodge at the shores of Lake Victoria (a great base for bird spotting, mountain-biking and traditional fishing), Pangani on the northern shores of the country (boasting beautiful stretches of golden sand) or one of the surprisingly beautiful beach resorts on the Dar Es Salaam peninsula (conveniently located for those flying in and/or out of Dar).
Taking an alternative route on your returning journey means that you will get the opportunity to see much more unique scenery and surroundings. We can organise all hotel bookings and transfers, making your whole experience seamless from beginning to end. If you would like some ideas or advice on potential places that you could end your trip, then please just drop us an email

Though it may come as a surprise, we have had many clients in the past for whom spotting the "Big Five" was not the most important aspect of their safari! Check out some genuine examples below...
History buff? Why not follow in the footsteps of the German Colonialists, visiting the Dar Es Salaam national museum, stopping at missions and churches in Bagamoyo, German East Africa's original capital and a world heritage site, and see the Old German Station building in Moshi?
Love birding? We can take you to the ornithological hotspots across the country, pair you with a dedicated birding guide, and even book you into those accommodations where we know birdlife abounds.
