Did you know…?
…The “low season”
months of April and May in Tanzania are actually a great time to
go on safari. Because this is the rainy season, many people simply
dismiss the idea going on safari at this time. But did you know
that during April it usually only rains for a few hours every other
day, often at night, and even less in May? The downpours are countered
by bright bursts of sunshine, providing the amateur photographer
with dramatic backgrounds for wildlife photographs. Going on a Tanzania
safari in low season means vibrantly green and lush landscapes,
excellent wildlife viewing (as ever), cooler temperatures, and fewer
vehicles to compete with. If that wasn’t enough, we are adding
to the list of reasons to visit Tanzania during these months by
offering 20% off all of our safari’s taken in April and May.

the low season, then contact a member of our expert advisory team

Have you heard…?
…The largest and most popular music
festival in East Africa which takes place on the exotic island of
Zanzibar, Tanzania - Sauti za Busara (that’s Voices of Wisdom
in Swahili) kicks off on Wednesday 9th February with a special appearance
from Bi Kidude – 90+ years old, enigmatic, and a legend on
the Zanzibar music scene who continues to thrill and entertain with
her individual vocal style. From then onwards, there will be five
days of entertainment held at the atmospheric Old Fort in Stone
Town, which will include performances from musical and dance groups
from all over Africa. Taarab, rumba, fusion, hip-hop, traditional,
bongo flava – whatever your style, the party atmosphere and
world-class entertainment are sure to appeal to all. And just in
case you didn’t know…
Taarab music emerged from Zanzibar, but takes
influences from all over the world. There will be a number of Taarab
musicians performing at the festival this year, including Mohamed
Ilyas & Nyota Zameremeta , Jahazi Modern Taarab and of course
Bi Kidude. The Rumba style (also known as Soukous or African Rumba)
originated in Belgian Congo and French Congo, gradually moving eastwards
into Tanzania, where it is now extremely popular. At Sauti Za Busara,
check out Mlimani Park Orchestra and the African Stars Band. Fusion
is what you get when you combine more than one style of music with
another, with the outcome of a unique sound. It seems only fitting,
then, that there are so many groups describing themselves as “fusion”
at this year’s Sauti za Busara. Zanzibar itself offers an
eclectic mix of culture, custom and cuisine, from Portugal, the
Arab gulf and of course Africa. Fusion groups performing this year
include Swahili Encounters Group, Percussion Discussion Afrika,
Blick Bassy and Groove Lélé. Sauti za Busara is one
place where you might just witness a whole new genre emerge before
you!
