At the shores of Lake Tanganyika, the second deepest
lake in the world, and close to the Mahale Mountains, lies the Kungwe
Beach Lodge.
The camp boasts 10 spacious and comfortable canvas
tents on wooden platforms and with thatched roofs. Each tent is
equipped with ensuite bathrooms with hot and cold running water,
flush toilets, mosquito nettings. From the verandah you'll have
a splendid view over the endless waters of Lake Tanganyika.
In the evenings, candlelit dinners are served in
the dining area or directly at the sandy beach.
The camp is run on solar power, making it a quiet
stay in an untouched and unique landscape.
Activities at Kungwe Beach Lodge
Chimpanzee Tracking
Chimpanzee tracking is the main attraction at
Mahale, and it's one of view areas in Tanzania where you can experience
it. The 4 hrs track normally starts in the morning, back for lunch.
After lunch you can relax at the lodge, walk on the beaches, swim,
or snokel, or go for another chimpanzee trekking tour.
Fishing
Mahale is one of the best locations on Lake
Tanganyika for fishing, and there is are many fish in the area due
to effective controlling. Some of the species caught are the Nile
Perch and Yellow Belly. The lodges provides you with all equipment,
boat and captain.
The best time to stay at the Kungwe Beach Lodge
and to visit the nearby Mahale Mountains is during the dry season
from May to October, and during the short rains of January and February.
