The Evergreen Bungalows on the East Coast of Zanzibar is a small and relaxed, family run hotel, located on the eastern side of the exotic East African island of Zanzibar. Situated in a palm garden direct on the beach, it overlooks the beautiful fine white sands and coconut palms of Bwejuu beach. The beach at Bwejuu is said to be among the best beaches on Zanzibar. The atmosphere is intimate and tranquil with spectacular views across the coral reef and the azure Indian Ocean beyond. The Evergreen is quite a simple, but clean and stylish beach hotel, perfect for budget travelers, who want to stay and relax without the need of luxury.

Six bungalows in a palmgrove direct on the beach offer only nine rooms, each with a different touch.
All the rooms have been decorated using local materials to give them a unique Zanzibari feel and come complete with mosquito nets, solar power supply and freshrunning water. Each bungalow has its own balcony with chairs and a table and all rooms have their own en-suite bathroom.
Coconut wood fixtures and fittings give an exotic feel to the suites.

The beach bungalows are built double-storey, the upper double rooms with own access are using shared bathrooms, but having a balcony with an astoning seaview.

The beach restaurant is styled with coconut wood furnitures and local materials creating an exotic atmosphere. Guests can enjoy the meals while relaxing and overlooking the ocean.

Seafood is the speciality of the house, with all produces bought daily from the local markets. The menu is based on the day’s catch; different fish, kingfish, tuna etc., sometimes octopus and Calamari.


Dinner offers a choice of main courses between meat, fish and vegetarian. We serve many traditional Zanzibari dishes, tasty with coconut milk, spiced with all the famous spices from Zanzibar: fresh ginger, lime, garlic, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, cardamom etc.

The beachbar in the restaurant offers cold soft drinks, beer, southafrican wines, cocktails and sundowners as well as juices, tea, coffee and little snacks.
