Itineraries
starting at Kilimanjaro Airport, JRO (Arusha) ending on Zanzibar
Our 'special offer', 'Best of Tanzania', as well
as some other itineraries that include a northern circuit Safari
(Serengeti, Ngorongoro...) and Zanzibar holiday , start at JRO and
end on Zanzibar airport.
- KLM is serving both airports, and you can book
'open jar' flights. Other ‘open jaw’ flights are offered
by
- Condor (from Germany with connection flights
to West Europe)
- South African Airways in cooperation with Air
Tanzania (from Johannesburg)
Otherwise, if you get flights only to Nairobi or
Dar es Salaam, then we can help you with the necessary connection
flights (please see below).
Or : arriving at Kilimanjaro Airport and departing
from Dar Es Salaam
Such so called ‘open jaw’ flights are offered by
- KLM in cooperation with Kenya Airways, Air France
and Northwest Airlines
- Ethiopian Airlines
NB – if going on safari and then to Zanzibar
and flying KLM it is strongly advised to book an open jaw flight
to Kilimanjaro / from Zanzibar or Dar Es Salaam. The departure flight
from Kilimanjaro goes via Dar Es Salaam, so it is much more convenient
(and cheaper) for you to get a connection flight to Dar Es Salaam
instead of Kilimanjaro.
Itineraries starting
at Kilimanjaro Airport, JRO (Arusha)
If going on safari to the Northern Circuit (Lake
Manyara, Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro). Itineraries start and
end at Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Best flight options are arriving at/departing from
Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Such flights are offered by
- KLM in cooperation with Kenya Airways, Air France
and Northwest Airlines
- Ethiopian Airlines
- Condor (from Germany with connection flights
to West Europe)
- South African Airways in cooperation with Air
Tanzania (from Johannesburg)
If you don’t get any suitable flights to
Kilimanjaro you could consider flying into Nairobi (see below)
Southern circuit
Safaris (Selous, Ruaha, Mikumi)
If going on safari to the Southern Circuit (Selous,
Ruaha, Mikumi)
Itineraries start and end at Dar Es Salaam International Airport.
There are many airlines flying into Dar Es Salaam, at present
- KLM in cooperation with Air France and Northwest
Airlines
- Ethiopian Airlines
- Qatar Airways
- Emirates
- Swiss Airlines
- British Airways
- South African Airways in cooperation with Air
Tanzania (from Johannesburg)
From Dar to Zanzibar
If you want to visit Zanzibar, then sometimes you
can get cheaper flights to Dar than to Zanzibar directly. From Dar
es Salaam we can easily connect you to Zanzibar (20 min flight,
from 50 US$ per person). You can also reach Zanzibar by ferry boat,
which costs 35 US$ per person, but involves the taxi to the harbour
(ca. 15 US$).
Holidays in Zanzibar
If you wish to fly to Zanzibar directly there
are the following options.
- KLM in cooperation with Kenya Airways, Air France
and Northwest Airlines – sometimes with long transit hours
in Nairobi
- Condor (from Germany with connection flights
to West Europe)
- South African Airways in cooperation with Air
Tanzania (from Johannesburg)
- Charter Flights from Italy and Spain (during
high season
Often you get cheaper flights to Dar Es Salaam
instead of Zanzibar directly. From Dar Es Salaam we can easily connect
you to Zanzibar
• either with connection flights (20 min flight, from 60 US$
per person).
• or by ferry boat (approx 2 hours, at 35 US$ per person/2nd
class). But this involves a taxi transfer from the airport to the
harbour (ca. 15 US$). The last ferry to Zanzibar leaves Dar Es Salaam
at 15:45 hrs.
From Dar to Arusha
There are several flights from Dar to Arusha, the first one at 0930hrs1120
(Zanair), the last one at 1640hrs1820 (Air Excel). Those flights
cost from 190 US$ per person, depending on airline.
Kenya Safaris,
Nairobi and connection flights to Arusha and Zanzibar
International airport Nairobi is one of the most
important airports in Africa, and connects Africa with the rest
of the world... Almost all airlines do fly to Nairobi, and often
you can get cheap flights. Airlines flying into Nairobi are
• KLM in cooperation with Air France and Northwest Airlines
• Ethiopian Airlines
• Qatar Airways
• Emirates
• Swiss Airlines
• British Airways
• South African Airways in cooperation with Air Tanzania (from
Johannesburg)
• Egypt Air
• Brussels Airways (former Sabena)
If you want to connect to Arusha, then there are
several flights daily. Kenya Airways and Regional Air (from Wilson
Airport) are leaving Nairobi at 0800hrs, 1000hrs, 1300hrs (Wilson
Airport), and 1800hrs. Flight cost from 150-200 US$ per person.
Additional visa costs for leaving the international airport (20
US$ for a day, 50 US$ for a 4 weeks visa)
There are 3 flights per day in each direction but
they are always well booked. Therefore, it is advisable to arrange
those tickets well in advance, especially during high season. If
we miss a direct flight between Nairobi and Zanzibar (or vice versa)
we have to book you visa Dar Es Salaam, Mombasa or Kilimanjaro.
These flights are more expensive since there are 2 flights to be
paid. We hope that there soon is a better connection between Zanzibar
and Dar.
• Private road transfer Nairobi Airport
to Arusha Town – 450 USD per vehicle. This option can be arranged
until 15.00 hrs latest.
• Scheduled Shuttle buses from Nairobi Airport or City Hotels
to Arusha Town – 25 USD per seat. The departure times are
fixed to 08:00 hrs am and 14:00 hrs pm
If you arrive in to Nairobi in the late afternoon and want to avoid
flying we can arrange overnights in Nairobi and the connection (with
shuttle bus or private vehicle) the following day.
